A superb and very important Art Deco bronze sculpture by Marie Louise Simard circa 1930

It represents an elegant woman with a sunshade,on an elephant’s back

Silvered and gold patina for the woman, silvered elephant, golden sunshade with a dinanderie work in good condition.
Golden palanquin, the two nacelle carpets with a very nice dinanderie pattern ( one of the two with the pattern partially erased )
The sculpture rests on a triple base in brown and beige onyx ( small scattered lacks )
Signed M L Simard on the base

Description

Marie Louise Simard born in Paris.She was brought up in Monaco where she learned the rudiments of carving from an old local stonecutter.
She was thereafter completely self-taught
She exibited at the Salon des Tuileries in 1927,and during the 30’s in France and in Europe
She executed decorative bronzes, nudes, elegant dancing figures or animmal bronzes, mostly in bronze which was often silvered and then decorated with black enamel or dinanderie patterns.
He exhibited her figures at the Edgard Brandt Gallery during the 30’s
