Brown and gold patina, on a Portoro marble base.
Very nice original enamelling on the neck and the dress of the woman
Signed Chiparus on the marble base.
Ancient cast.

Description

Demeter H Chiparus ( 1888-1950), born in Romania and lived in paris studying under A Mercier and J Boucher.
He exhibited at the Salons from 1914.
His later works in the 20’s, were influenced by the interest in Egypt, after the excavation of the Pharaoh’s tombs.
In the 30’s, he based many works on the ballet and the theater, and mainly the Ballet Russe.
He is the most sought-after sculptor of Art Deco decorative sculptures.
